about

committed to serving women & families

My journey into this work has been a somewhat winding one...

As a teenager, I wasn't sure what I was going to do. I had a fascination with life and science, and writing, and the experience of humanity. There was a time when I was weighting school options of agriculture, creative writing, and midwifery or medicine, in equal measure.

Since then, I have had experiences working on a small scale organic produce farm, three years in nursing school, three years working in the flower industry, and many other random things.

In 2021 I left nursing school because at that time I felt I was no longer able to work within the BC healthcare system and stay true to my values and convictions. Shortly after, I began to consider my next steps. With my ongoing consideration and interest in midwifery, I began to look at the path of becoming a doula.

I went on to take my first training, an introduction to the world of birth, and only a month later attended the birth of my niece as a doula. I knew at that point that I had found my next step forward. I then spent the next few years in a deeper study of birth and physiology of the female body, and now attend births as a doula and teach childbirth education classes.

I have been blessed to have been able to learn from amazing women and be a part of trainings and receive certifications that have been formative to my work, including:

I’m here for you - to support you, to encourage you, to do what I can to help you feel prepared and capable as you anticipate the birth of your child. Knowledge is power, and support and understanding have the ability to make birth more easeful.

Fundamentally, birth belongs to women. Along with many other women, I agree it’s time we remember that pregnancy is not a disease, birth is not inherently an emergency. Our bodies are intelligently designed, and it’s time we remember and celebrate that.

The Philosophy

more about my work

| Staying out late - if it's dark outside, it must be a special occasion if I'm not at home
| Coffee, smells good but the effects on me are no bueno
| Alarm clocks, who wants to jolt awake with a shot of adrenalin?
| The government dictating your health choices
| Electric cars (need I say more?)

No

| Being outside; sunrise, sunset, sunny, cold, hot - spend more time outside folks!
| Historical fiction and/or historical dramas
| Walks with my dog, Isla
| Matcha (only the best, Starbucks doesn't count)
| Mentally plotting out the novels I want to write someday
| Dessert, especially if I made it myself
