let's become women who understand
OUR BODIES

Over time, our culture of birth has morphed to prioritize all the what ifs, the just in case's, the modern technology and advancements. In all this "progress", the biological reality of the physiology of the female body has become clouded, and often misunderstood. There is so much to learn, so much to remember, about womanhood, female biology, and birth physiology.

There is a beautiful design built into your bones.
Let's talk about it.

more about me

I’ve always been a caregiver—as a toddler mothering other tiny children, to growing into an oldest daughter of my family, to a nursing student, and now a doula. My pathway into a profession of caregiving began relatively conventionally, and it didn't take long for me to forge my own path, necessitated by the force of following my values and living in integrity with them.

Whether I'm teaching a class or attending a birth, my goals are the same; honour our physiological design, share insights that may help you make the best decision for you, and be a grounded, calm, presence with you in each moment. In my work, I recognize and actively teach that there are biological blueprints for birth, but in the other hand I also hold faith that each family's story will unfold as it should in that moment.

My Story

meet Emma

I (Abigail) knew Emma and her family for several years before having my first baby, and I knew already that I felt comfortable with her and that our views on health and birth were very similar. The education part of her doula package far exceeded the information we got from more standard healthcare providers, which was exactly what we were looking for. Emma ended up being with us for 85 hours during labour and delivery, and was a peaceful, encouraging, grounding presence the whole time. When it came time to accept or decline interventions, she navigated the line between giving advice and letting us decide super gracefully. She had a knack for reading us and knowing when we needed space and when we needed hands-on help. We ended up welcoming a healthy baby boy with Emma cheering us on! We are so thankful for the part she played in our son’s birth, and heartily recommend her!

Client Testimonials

It's hard to sum into words how much I appreciate Emmas support during my birth. I entered my holistic/natural journey a few months into my pregnancy and was trying to learn as much as possible in the months I had left. Her course is so informative and clear, my husband and I were excited after each session about what my body was doing and was about to do. I had a hospital birth (I hope to do a home birth next time) where a lot went differently than I expected. If I hadn't taken Emmas course and if Emma wasn't there with me I would've felt really lost. When my birth plan felt like it was being thrown to the wind I would look to Emma and she would give me all the information I needed to make decisions. She helped me stand my ground and advocate for myself and my baby. She said all the things I needed to hear about how my body was created and what I was capable of. In the days after birth as my husband and I were constantly debriefing about it all we kept saying "Thank God we had Emma" "What would we have done without Emma!". Also in the days after birth I would text her a million "is this normal? is that normal?" to which she always responded with all that she knew and if she didn't she'd do some research and she'd get back to me. Lord willing I have home births for my next babies and I hope Emma is available to be there for my future births!

Client Testimonials

Emma is a long time friend (of over 15 years!) and it was beautiful to share this experience with her.
She is incredibly knowledgable, humble, kind and fully believes in the ability of a woman’s body in childbirth. She always provides evidence science backed information about birth and postpartum as well as encouragement and support in our meetings leading up to the birth.
She was a peaceful and respectful presence at the birth of our Son, stepping into roles seamlessly. From taking notes and assisting the midwife, to bailing water from the birth pool during the pushing stage! There were moments when we needed assurance on decisions and she offered advice with respect for our decisions. She provided hands on assistance and at the same time knew when to step back when needed space in the “quietude” moments.
Emma made us feel comfortable and at ease answering any and all questions we had, making sure we felt confident and informed. She provided so much encouragement for this birth and made me feel confident in my body to accomplish my dream VBAC!

Client Testimonials

I don’t even know where to start. Emma was exactly who I needed to be present at my birth. Since I had experienced a traumatic hospital birth with my first, I knew I wanted a different outcome for my next birth. Emma took the time to debrief my first birth with me (and my husband), which brought a lot of clarity to what I wanted for this birth. Her sincerity, peaceful presence, and care was so evident. She answered all my questions, and also asked countering questions to get me thinking more deeply. On the day of the birth, she was so relaxed and allowed me to birth undisturbed. The most vivid memory I have of Emma supporting me was when I was nearing transition, but I felt like my contractions were stalling, no longer escalating like they had been. So I asked Emma for a suggestion, and before she answered, instead she asked me: “Danica, do you want help with coping or do you want to get it done?” , to which I replied “GET IT DONE.” She then shared that she had noticed my position during contractions may have been prohibiting baby from getting into the pelvis/birth canal. With one simple suggestion, she helped me adjust my position and our baby arrived within the hour. Although at this point in her life, Emma has not physically birthed her own babies, she has a true gift in coming alongside other women during this critical event in their lives. She has been such a blessing to me, and I know she continues to be for other women as well.

Client Testimonials

Emma was absolutely amazing as our doula. She went above and beyond to support us throughout our pregnancy — always taking the time to provide well-researched answers and even consulting her healthcare provider network to back up her knowledge.
Before meeting Emma, I was seriously considering going back to Belgium to deliver my baby, but she made me feel safe, confident, and cared for here. During labour, she was incredibly supportive — her massage techniques helped me manage contractions, and thanks to her guidance, I only had one hour of active delivery at the hospital. Emma was by our side from start to finish.
I also really appreciated her communication style — clear, respectful of my time, and always supported with scientific facts and statistics.
We highly recommend Emma’s services to any expecting parent looking for a calm, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated doula.
